The best places to eat fried fish in Cádiz
In this article, we are going to take you on a tour of the best bars and restaurants in Cádiz where you can eat fried fish (pescaíto frito, as it is called here). We've put together a list in order according to our own criteria.
1. Kiosko los 12 hijos de Juan
The best way to spot a true local from Cádiz (Gaditano) is to ask them for the best value-for-money spot to eat fried fish; if they don't recommend Los 12 Hijos de Juan, start doubting.
Marinated dogfish (cazón en adobo), fried cuttlefish (choco frito), shrimp fritters (tortillitas de camarones), baby squid (puntillitas), fried anchovies (boquerones fritos)… possibly the best variety of fried fish in the city of Cádiz. With over 40 years of experience, they only work with fresh produce, so they might run out of certain items if you arrive too late. They also offer cold dishes like potato salad (ensaladilla), seasoned potatoes (papas aliñadas), or alioli. Sometimes they have off-menu specials like paella.

You can order to take away or eat there. If you eat there, arrive early because it tends to get very busy and you'll have to wait for a table, especially if you want a seated table. You can also eat standing up at the high tables or at the bar. You can order tapas or full portions (raciones); they tend to be very generous, so be mindful.
📍Located in Barriada de la Paz, at Calle Medina Sidonia Nº 5 and Calle Sotillo Nº 4. Very close to each other.
💶 Usually under €10 per person
2. Freiduría Las Flores
Without a doubt, the most popular fried fish shop (freiduría) in Cádiz city. For this reason, it is usually very busy with both tourists and locals. It offers both table dining and takeaway.
They have the advantage of being very well located, both the city center spot (Plaza de las flores) and the one in Puerta Tierras (Calle Brasil, near the beach).
The most typical dishes: Cazón en adobo, baby squid (puntillitas), fried prawns (gambas fritas), small squid (chipirones), cuttlefish (choco), anchovies (boquerones), shrimp fritters (tortillas de camarones)… They also serve seafood and other cooked dishes like potato salad (ensaladilla), Galician-style octopus (pulpo a la gallega), paella…
Given the high influx of customers, service might not be the most attentive, but that's normal in places handling such a high volume of orders.
Arrive early if you don't want to wait long.

Portions start from 1/4 kg, and they offer typical dishes such as cazón en adobo, wedge soles (acedías), cuttlefish (chocos), small squid (chipirones), fried prawns (gambas fritas), fish roe (huevas), whiting (pescadillas), baby squid (puntillitas), and shrimp fritters (tortillas de camarones).
