Cuaresma para los sentidos. Cádiz 2026

Tuesday, 24 February 2026 at 1:00→Sunday, 5 April 2026 at 2:00

For the third consecutive year, Fundación Cajasol and Ayuntamiento de Cádiz are joining their Lenten schedules into a single calendar that combines the activities of Tramos de Cuaresma with those of the municipal program Cuaresma para los sentidos. This alliance, consolidated since 2024, aims to join forces in promoting Cadiz traditions and expanding the reach of a cultural offering that ranges from visual arts to gastronomy, as well as music and brotherhood gatherings.

Exhibitions, music and brotherhood gatherings

The backbone of Tramos de Cuaresma 2026 consists of three exhibitions that can be visited at Fundación Cajasol in Cádiz with free admission, from Monday to Sunday, from 11.00 to 14.00 h and from 16.30 to 20.30 h.

The first one, open from February 25 to March 7, will exhibit the new canopy (palio) designed for María Santísima de todos los Santos, titular image of Hermandad de la Cena.

This will be followed, from March 11 to 20, by Estrenos. Semana Santa 2026, a proposal that will allow visitors to discover the new heritage items that Cádiz brotherhoods are adding to their processions this year.

Closing the exhibition triptych, from March 26 to April 10, is the exhibition Arte, Patrimonio y Devoción en la Hermandad del Caído, a journey through the artistic richness of one of the city's most deeply rooted brotherhoods.

The three exhibitions also offer guided tours for school groups and organizations, upon advance booking by calling 956 060 511 or emailing fundacioncadiz@cajasol.com.

The cycle will kick off with Proemio Cofradiero on February 26 at 20.30 h at Fundación Cajasol in Cádiz, featuring a meeting between the Holy Week heralds (pregoneros) of Seville, Jerez and Cádiz, a three-voice dialogue offering a choral and enriching insight into the Lenten experience in each of these cities. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.

The musical side features a very varied program:

On March 6 at 20.00 h, Quinteto Fundación Cajasol will star in a recital at the Cádiz venue with free admission.

A week later, on March 13 at 20.00 h, Catedral de Cádiz will host Voces que rezan, a concert by Rancapino Chico, one of the most relevant figures of contemporary cante jondo, with proceeds divided equally between Archicofradía Sacramental de Medinaceli in Cádiz and Catedral de Cádiz.

The musical climax will take place on March 23 at 20.00 h with Pasión y Fe, a concert featuring Orquesta Sinfónica Artis Et Culturae, the flamenco voices of Eterna Madrugá and Agrupación Musical “Polillas” at Gran Teatro Falla, benefiting Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesús Caído en Cádiz and Hermandad Sacramental de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Milagro en la Sagrada Cena.

In addition to these events, Ayuntamiento de Cádiz offers further activities through Cuaresma para los sentidos:

The Escolanía María Auxiliadora concert at Iglesia de San José (February 27, 21.00 h), the performance by Orquesta Barroca de Cádiz at the Catedral (February 28, 20.00 h), the concert Coro de voces blancas de la Escuela de Música Bravíssimo “Laudemus Virginem!” on Saturday, March 14, and the recital El silencio de la Pasión by Ensemble de Clarinetes de Cádiz at Iglesia de San Francisco (March 17, 20.30 h), all with free admission.

Street traditions, brotherhood recognition and Lenten flavor

The municipal program also includes two days of street parades (pasacalles) that will fill the historic center with music:

On March 8 at 11.15 h, the II Pasacalles y concierto de las Agrupaciones Musicales de Cádiz will take place, following a route starting at Plaza de Capuchinos and ending at Plaza de España, next to the Monument to the Constitution of 1812.

On March 15 at the same time, it will be the turn of the I Pasacalles y concierto de Bandas de Música de la provincia de Cádiz, ending at the exact same location. On March 20, Plaza de San Antonio will become the venue for the traditional torrijada popular, accompanied from 20.00 h by the parade and concert of Banda de Cornetas y Tambores Rosario Coronada de Cádiz.

Tramos de Cuaresma also renews its commitment to those who dedicate their lives to the brotherhoods through Premios Gota a Gota, which this year will honor two figures from Cádiz's cofrade community. On March 12 at 19.00 h, Auditorio Cajasol Jerez will host the tribute to Santiago Zurita, and on March 26 at 13.30 h, Fundación Cajasol in Cádiz will do the same for Pedro Reinoso. Both ceremonies will have free admission.

The spoken word of the cofrade tradition will also have its place on March 23 at 18.30 h, when Consejo Local de Hermandades y Cofradías presents the Pregón de la Semana Santa book in Cádiz, an event taking place right before the Pasión y Fe concert at Falla and highlighting the literary and reflective nature that also defines this liturgical season.

The culinary aspect of the cycle takes shape in two cooking workshops at Fundación Cajasol in Cádiz: the first, aimed at families, will be held on March 19 at 18.00 h under the title Repostería con sabor a Cuaresma, and the second, on March 25 at 19.00 h, will delve into Cocina de Cuaresma.
