Cádiz celebrates LGTBIQ+ Pride with activities and advocacy

Cádiz prepares for an LGTBIQ+ Pride full of color and advocacy

The city of Cádiz will dress in rainbow colors from June 20 to 29 with the celebration of ‘Orgullo de Cadi Cadi’. An extensive and diverse program that will cover cultural, recreational, educational, and advocacy activities to commemorate International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day.

According to municipal sources, this year's program has featured broad participation from social organizations, LGTBIQ+ collectives, as well as representatives from the city's cultural, educational, artistic, commercial, and hospitality sectors.

Raising of the inclusive flag

Ayuntamiento de Cádiz will reaffirm its commitment to diversity and inclusion with the raising of the inclusive flag at two key moments. First, on June 20 at Plaza de Sevilla, and second, on June 28, International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, at Consistorio gaditano.

María Peláe, exceptional guest speaker

Renowned artist María Peláe will be in charge of delivering the opening proclamation for ‘Orgullo de Cadi Cadi’ on June 21 at Plaza de la Catedral. Her commitment to the visibility of the LGTBIQ+ community and her artistic connection to Cádiz make her the ideal speaker for this celebration.

Peláe, known for her unique style and LGTBIQ+ activism, uses her songs as a tool to make diversity visible and break social stigmas, addressing topics such as gender identity, sexual freedom, and sexism with courage and sensitivity.

Tributes to memory and the fight for equality

The event ‘Para No Perder la Memoria’ will pay tribute to individuals and organizations that have worked tirelessly for diversity, equality, and respect. Fundación Cádiz CF, doctor Andrés Martín Aspas, Jaime Zamora, and singer-songwriter La Mare will be recognized for their work.

Training for inclusion

‘Orgullo de Cadi Cadi’ will also offer in-person and online training for staff in shops, hospitality, educational centers, and public spaces, aiming to create safe and respectful spaces for the LGTBIQ+ community.

Recreational and cultural activities for everyone

The program includes a wide variety of festive activities combining advocacy with fun, such as the high heels race, the Olimpiadas LGTBIQ+, and performances by local and national artists such as Nacha La Macha and Arantxa Castilla La Mancha.

The city will be decked out in rainbow colors, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere to celebrate diversity and freedom.

‘Amor Omnia Vincit’ concert at ECCO

Delegación Municipal de Cultura joins the celebration with a special concert at ECCO, where Orquesta Barroca and DJ Tamara Calavera, along with drag performers Susy Poisson, Francisca Fontana, and Dama D’night, will offer a night of music and show.
