Cavada consolidates food aid in San Fernando through a permanent subsidy to the Banco de Alimentos.

Today, Mayor Patricia Cavada signed an agreement with María Isabel Gómez, president of the Banco de Alimentos de Cádiz, to grant a direct subsidy for the distribution of food aid to vulnerable groups in San Fernando.

This measure aims to provide a 'quick and effective' response to ensure the food supply for all beneficiary families during the transition period to prepaid cards. The local government will review the situation in the coming months to guarantee the continuity of the food supply after the definitive implementation of the new system.

The government team and most of the entities involved in the distribution of food aid consider the prepaid card system to be 'very positive', as it turns a solidarity program into a recognized right. This provides families with access to a wider variety of products, more autonomy in managing them, and greater dignity by eliminating queues for food.

The Ayuntamiento de San Fernando stands out as the first and only one to establish a support mechanism amid the uncertainty generated by the change in the aid system. The mayor urged other city councils and institutions to stop casting doubt and complaining, and to offer solutions to help implement this new system, as San Fernando is doing.

It is worth highlighting that this direct subsidy, which was paid today, stems from several meetings with collaborating entities of the Banco de Alimentos in San Fernando. These meetings identified existing needs to prevent any lack of protection during the transition to prepaid cards and after their definitive implementation.

The agreement signed today marks the start of this initiative, with a direct subsidy of 44,000 euros for the next four months, thus covering the 11,000 euros per month needed to compensate for the loss of European funds due to the switch to the prepaid card system.

This subsidy is granted to the Asociación Banco de Alimentos de Cádiz to co-finance the project 'Distribución de ayuda alimentaria a colectivos vulnerables en San Fernando'. The mayor explained that in the coming months, when evaluating the implementation of the prepaid cards, a decision will be made on whether it is necessary to continue or increase the municipality's financial aid, always guaranteeing support for those who need it.

The president of the Banco de Alimentos thanked the Ayuntamiento de San Fernando for this initiative, describing it as essential for associations in direct contact with families in need. Gómez urged other city councils to reflect and follow San Fernando's example.

Finally, the mayor thanked the Banco de Alimentos and all collaborating entities for their 'extraordinary work', highlighting the need for their support and solutions in the face of complaints and friction.
