Nighttime closures in city parks for greater safety
The mayor of the city, Bruno García, recently announced that the city's parks will close at night starting next September 3. This decision has been made in response to requests from local residents and with the aim of improving safety and maintenance in these green areas.
The parks affected by this night closure are Cortadura, Carlos Díaz, Parque Erytheia y Kotinoussa (Jardines de Varela), Chalet de Varela, Celestino Mutis, Parque Genovés, San José, and Reina Sofía. Summer hours will be from 8 to 23:30 hours, while in winter closing time will be at 22 hours.
According to the mayor, staff from Parques y Jardines will be responsible for opening the facilities from Monday to Friday, while closing them and managing them during weekends will be the responsibility of a security company. “We have received complaints from residents regarding the inappropriate use being made of the parks, and furthermore, many of these parks have renovated children's play areas, which represented a significant financial effort, and we must protect them and ensure their maintenance,” assured Bruno García.
