Bus ticket prices in Cádiz could rise from 0.35 to 0.70 euros in January

The political group Adelante Izquierda Gaditana has warned of a possible increase in urban bus fares in Cádiz, which could particularly affect 'bonobús' pass holders starting January 1, 2025. As they explained, the cost would rise from 0.35 euros to 0.70 euros if the City Council does not intervene to prevent it. This increase is linked to the end of central government public transport subsidies, which until now covered a 30% reduction in ticket prices, complemented by an additional 20% assumed by the City Council.

Faced with this situation, Adelante Izquierda Gaditana has urged the City Council to guarantee a fixed price of 0.35 euros for 'bonobús' tickets, assuring that the measure is financially viable. David de la Cruz, spokesperson for the group, stated that the City Council has sufficient resources to implement this measure, which would benefit citizens more than other expenses such as Christmas lighting or events like Cádiz Fenicia.

De la Cruz also pointed out that keeping public transport fares low is essential to promote its use over private vehicles, describing the proposal as "a profitable investment" for municipal funds. Furthermore, he recalled that the previous government team had already evaluated this possibility and concluded that it was feasible.

Adelante Izquierda Gaditana emphasized the importance of having an efficient, affordable, and sustainable public transport system, noting that this proposal would not only benefit citizen mobility, but also contribute to the fight against climate change. According to the group, guaranteeing affordable access to transport is key to moving towards a more sustainable Cádiz that is less dependent on private vehicles.
