The spirit of Willy Wonka comes alive in the celebration of International Children's Book Day in Cádiz.
The commemoration of International Children's Book Day in Cádiz is a prominent event held every year on April 2 since its declaration in 1967. This year, the Biblioteca Pública Provincial is organizing a special workshop around Roald Dahl's iconic work, «Charlie y la fábrica de chocolate».
From 17.00 to 20.00 hours, the plaza de las Tortugas will be the setting for this celebration, where the little ones will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas.
The Valle de Cuentos team, recognized for their dedication to children in Cádiz, will lead activities such as Wonka-style soap making, crafting EVA foam lollipops, and an exciting tour through the Chocolate Factory.
Participation in this event is free and requires no prior booking, as the workshops will be running throughout the afternoon.
«Charlie y la fábrica de chocolate» is the inspiration behind this celebration, a work immortalized by Roald Dahl in 1964. Dahl, known for his ability to narrate from a child's perspective, has left a lasting legacy with works such as «Matilda», «James y el melocotón gigante», and «Las brujas».
This story follows the life of Charlie Bucket, a boy living in poverty whose fate changes when he crosses paths with the eccentric Willy Wonka, owner of the nearby chocolate factory. The film adaptation of this work has captivated audiences on several occasions, highlighting the 1971 and 2005 versions, as well as the most recent one in 2023.
International Children's Book Day is celebrated on April 2 in honor of the birth of the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, whose timeless tales continue to inspire generations. This commemoration highlights the importance of literature in the development of imagination, empathy, and language from the earliest stages of life.
