The Palacio de Congresos de Cádiz dresses up to host an event of great relevance on the Spanish cultural scene: the presentation of the 2022 Medallas de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes. An event presided over by the King and Queen of Spain, don Felipe and doña Letizia, taking place today at 12:00 hours in the building of the former Fábrica de Tabacos.
A well-deserved recognition for 32 personalities and institutions
Nearly an hour of ceremony recognizing the career and contribution of 32 prominent individuals and institutions in the field of culture. Among the awardees are well-known names such as singer María Jiménez (posthumously), former Minister of Culture José Guirao (posthumously), Academia de España en Roma, painter Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau, singer Concha Buika, actor Karra Elejalde, Orquesta Sinfónica de Acordeones de Bilbao, bailaora Rocío Molina, writer Rosa Montero, musician Santiago Auserón, and singer Víctor Manuel, among many others.
An official event attended by the highest authorities
The event will be attended by various dignitaries, including the mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García; the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno; the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, and King Felipe VI himself, who will close the ceremony. In addition, one of the honorees will have the opportunity to speak on behalf of the 32 awardees.
A prior meeting to celebrate the honorees
Last night, in the Salón Regio of the Diputación Provincial, a dinner of honor was held for the awardees, hosted by Minister Urtasun. A moment to recognize their careers and toast to their important work in the world of culture.
Awards recognizing cultural excellence
The Medallas de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes, awarded annually by the Ministerio de Cultura, recognize excellence across various artistic disciplines. This year, due to the 2023 general election and the subsequent caretaker government situation, the awards were not presented on their usual date, being held now in this solemn ceremony in Cádiz.
An event highlighting Spanish culture
The presentation of these medals highlights the commitment of the Gobierno de España to culture and its fundamental role in society. An event that will undoubtedly help boost and promote Spain's rich cultural heritage nationally and internationally.
