The third edition of ‘Flamencad’ returns to the summer of Cádiz with artists of yesteryear and contemporary ones.

The Espacio de Cultura Contemporánea de Cádiz (ECCO) was the setting this morning for the presentation of the flamenco series ‘Flamencad’, which will take place on Thursdays July 11 and 18, as well as August 1, 22, and 29 at Baluarte de la Candelaria.

One of the main new features of this edition is the expansion of the programming to five shows, one more than in previous years, allowing its duration to extend over a month and a half. In addition, an effort has been made to increase the visibility of women, who will have a dedicated night and a significant presence on the billing.

There will be five sessions, each with its own thematic focus, representing different aspects of flamenco, highlighting the stylistic forms native to Cádiz, new trends in flamenco, and the role of women in this art.

This series will also include two lectures: one by José María Castaño, focusing on La Perla de Cádiz, and another by the journalist Manuel Curao.

During the presentation, the deputy mayor and Councillor for Culture, Maite González García-Negrotto, highlighted the commitment of the Ayuntamiento de Cádiz to a program in high demand by flamenco enthusiasts, which this year emphasizes the stylistic formulas unique to Cádiz, new trends in flamenco, and the role of women in 'arte jondo'.

Renowned artists such as Mayte Martín, Pepe Torres, Lole Montoya, Remedios Amaya, El Pele, Kiki Morente, as well as Cádiz natives David Palomar and María Moreno, will be part of ‘Flamencad’.

This program features the collaboration of the municipal delegations of Cultura and Igualdad, Inclusión y LGTBIQ+, the Diputación de Cádiz, and the Asociación de Artistas y Ejecutantes.

The Councillor for Equality at the Ayuntamiento de Cádiz, Virginia Martín, emphasized that talking about flamenco and Cádiz also means talking about the great contributions of women to this art form. Women in flamenco have their own narrative, and their contribution has been fundamental to the evolution of this cultural, musical, and artistic genre.

The event was also attended by the series promoters, Antonio Montoya and Curro Velázquez-Gaztelu, who highlighted the strengthening of the festival in the city, as well as the artist David Palomar, who shared details of one of the most anticipated shows of this edition, centered on La Perla de Cádiz.
