Renovation of the Mercado Central de Abastos in Cádiz: €555,965

The Ayuntamiento de Cádiz has announced the awarding of the contract for the renovation of the Mercado Central de Abastos to the company Estudios y Ejecuciones S.A., for a total amount of 555,965.22 euros. The project, fully funded by the Diputación Provincial, has an execution period of nine months.

The work will focus on repairing the exterior cladding of the galleries, as well as restoring the sandstone elements that make up the columns, friezes, and cornices. In addition, it includes repairing the depressed arches of the market stalls and the wooden beam, as well as restoring the vertical awnings on the columned portico.

It is important to highlight that the works will be carried out without interrupting the daily activity of the market, a key spot for local commerce and an essential space in the life of the city. The Mercado Central de Abastos, which opened its doors to the public in 1838, has undergone several restructurings and renovations throughout its history, the last one being in 2009.

After years of deterioration in some elements of the building, this renovation project aims to restore and preserve the original structure of the Mercado Central de Abastos, guaranteeing its continuity as a vital space for the city of Cádiz.
