Saturday, January 27 – Pestiñada de Cádiz 2024
The dates for the main gastronomic festivals in Cádiz in honor of Carnival have been confirmed. The start of the food tastings in the capital is approaching after the conclusion of the first phase of the ongoing Concurso. The first event will be the traditional Pestiñada Popular, scheduled for January 27 at 20:30. This unique event marks the transition between Christmas and Carnival, although this year, due to the early start of the COAC, it could not be held earlier.
At Plaza de San Francisco, 10,000 pestiños made by Franjosé will be distributed, and 120 liters of anise liqueur will be offered to accompany the tasting. Carnival will be an essential part of the day, featuring performances by La tropa del 3×4, Sal de coplas, Antología Jesús Cruz y Zeus Marín, Los cleriguillos, and the chirigota Los de la arritmia al 3×4.
On January 28, at Plaza de San Antonio at 13:00, the Ostionada will take place, where around 5,000 ostiones, roasted peppers, manzanilla de Sanlúcar, and beer can be enjoyed for free at the various bars set up in the square.
Coinciding with this gastronomic festival, the Gambada Popular will be held on the same day, January 28, at 13:00 at Peña Flamenca La Perla de Cádiz. The finalist groups from the children's and youth categories of COAC 2024 will perform around the gastronomic events.
The remaining gastronomic events will take place in February. On February 4, locals will gather to celebrate the Erizada and the Mejillonada Popular. On the most well-known street in the La Viña neighborhood, numerous bars will be set up so people can enjoy traditional sea urchins starting at 12:30. During the event, around 2,500 kilos of sea urchins will be distributed for free.
That same day, but at Peña Flamenca La Perla de Cádiz, the Mejillonada Popular will take place starting at 13:00, featuring carnival performances to liven up the day before the start of the first semifinal session of the COAC.
