Fire and Evacuation Drill at Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar de Cádiz
At Hospital Universitario Puerta del Mar de Cádiz, an important fire and evacuation drill was carried out in the Intensive Care Unit (UCI) located on the third floor of the center. This activity was organized by the Unidad de Prevención de Riesgos Laborales of the Area/Health Surveillance of the Hospital Complex, in collaboration with the UCI team.
According to a statement issued by the Junta de Andalucía, the purpose of this drill was to train and prepare professionals to act appropriately in emergency situations, as established by the Plan de Autoprotección.
Drill Details
During the activity, a total of 35 professionals actively participated, including members of the UCI staff, orderlies, maintenance technicians, security personnel, as well as the teams responsible for the telephone switchboard, which is essential for communication during the emergency. Representatives from the Dirección-Gerencia and Subdirección de Servicios Generales were also present.
The drill began when an auxiliary nursing care technician detected a small fire outbreak in a storeroom. Despite their attempts to control the fire, it was necessary to activate the hospital's Plan de Actuación de Emergencias. UCI staff immediately made a call to the specific emergency number, reporting the presence of smoke and triggering alarm verification, which initiated the emergency response chain.
Importance of Continuous Training
This type of drill is crucial to ensuring that staff are properly trained and prepared to react to any eventuality, thereby guaranteeing the safety of patients and the medical team itself.
